Alright boyz, this ones a bit late, but we were helping out with the Food for the Food God food drive event. We received enough food donations to feed a wagh, and that feels good. If you were there, thanks for coming, you made a difference in someone life today. Look at you go.
But this article is about the new detachment for the Orks. It’s all about da mork muscle boyz.
The detachment rule is Lissen ‘Ere which is, guard orders???
Boss Snikrot, Meks, and Warboss models can issues “Taktiks”, which I’ll be calling orders from here on out, because typing taktiks makes me want to eat lead.
You can pick an Ork within 6″ and issue one or two orders. If you choose two, the Ork unit needs to take a leadership test, and on a fail they take D3 mortals. It’s cute.
The orders are as follows:
Get Stuck In: Re-roll charges. Based.
Get On Wiv It: +1 Strength to melee weapons.
Sneaky Stalkin’: Infantry and Mounted models (not meganobs) Get stealth and cover. Very sneaky, much Mork.
Shoota Drills: 1+ to hit rolls in shooting for infantry or mounted.
These are all neat and Orky. Better than Warhorde? Probably not? We’ll get into that.
Also Stormboyz get Battleline. They want you to take these, by the way.
Enhancements
There’s a lot to take in with this detachment, and I don’t know how a lot of stuff lands. it feels like something that needs to be played before you can understand if it’s good.
Skwad Leader gave me a headache just reading the name. It let’s a Warboss attach to Kommandos for 15 points, and gives the Warboss Infiltrator and Stealth. I’m told by a local Warboss this is not good. Very not good. I, a non-Ork player, am inclined to believe this is bad. C+? Maybe B-?
Mek Kaptin is 35 points and lets a Mek model join a Flash Gitz unit and lets the unit re-roll hits. I love Flash Gitz. Style points alone gives this an S+, but I’m told it’s closer to being a B+, and I think I agree.
Mork’s Kunnin’ is 15 points and lets you redeploy three Orks units. In any army this is huge. S+
Gob Boomer is a 10 point enhancement and lets you issue orders within 18″. This is probably good? I’m spit balling an A, this detachment is weird.
Stratagems
They gave Orks some like, Eldar Stratagems. It’s as good as it sounds.
Dat’s Ours lets you give an Ork unit +1 OC in the command phase if they’re engaged with an enemy unit. Orks like being in melee, they’re probably in melee. This is really good. A+
Fight Proppa is a banger which lets Ork infantry or mounted units have either Sustained Hits 1 or Lethal Hits. Lehtal Hits on Orks? RUH ROH SHAGGY. IT HURTY TIME. A+
Taktikal Retreat is fall back, shoot and charge. Nobz never stop charging #NobGang. A+
Krunchin’ Descent is charge mortals for Stormboyz. It’s just grenades on the charge. six D6, 4+ are mortals, up to 6 total mortals. Orks get through vehicles with grenades and tank shock so this looks real tight. A+
On To Da Next lets your unit reactive move 6″ after an enemy unit falls back from them, and you’re not in engagement anymore. This ones a bit harder to judge, but I think it’s probably good? Falling back might even let you just move onto an objective or go behind a wall. I really like it. I’ll be safe here and give it an A- for being a bit more restrictive than a regular reactive move.
This is my reminder that Aeldari are still the only faction with their reactive move not being a flat 6″. The fast army btw.
Ded Sneaky lets you put a Kommandos or Stormboyz go into reserves at the end of the fight phase if they’re out of engagement range. There’s no 6″ requirement on this like there normally is on stratagems like this. This is pretty crazy, Orks are getting some mad secondary game with it. A+
Lists
Today we have special guest Dave Cruickshank talking about the detachment and his thoughts on the detachment seem to deviate from the discourse I’ve been reading.

“Taktikal Brigade is a solid detachment, however I’m not sure it will beat out Warhorde competitively. Taktikal Brigade gives tons of flexibility with redeploys, pulling units of the table, OC bombs, fall back and charge and reactive moves. Its Taktiks offer a couple units some useful buffs to a few units near characters, Orks love to re-roll charges. Kaptin Badrukk is back in spirit with the Mek Kaptin enhancement, this will let us drop the Flashgitz stink bomb once again!
The detachment rule really compliments our best datasheets, most Orks units worth their teef are being led by a Warboss anyways. Battle line storm boyz are nice, I’m not sure I would run bigger units still, more MSU is always great though. I look forward to experimenting with this detachment.”
Final Thoughts
Armies nuts.
But, is it better than Warhorde? I don’t think so. I do think this army can win events though especially with the Waagh changes.
I really like it at least, and there’s a surprising restraing from Games Workshop to not make every stratagem only work on units with orders.
It’s very different for Orks and I love that. Glad they found a good balance of form and function.
Anyways.
Tomorrows Guard, I promise you I’ll have no idea what I’m talking about LOL.
