Games Workshop is obsessed with magic this holiday season I guess. Poetic really. So with that knowledge, Space Marine players were given the Librarius Conclave. A detachment for Psyker units.

Let’s get into it.

Psychic Disciplines is the detachment rule and it has you select an ability each battle round which effects all psyker units in your army.

The abilities are as follows:

  • Biomancy: +2 Move
  • Divination: Re-roll hit and wound rolls of 1.
  • Pyromancy: +1 AP to ranged attacks which target enemy units within 12″
  • Telekinesis: -1 Strength (???) to ranged attacks that target this unit
  • Telepathy: Ignore modifiers to hit rolls, and to ballistic and weapon skills.

Nothing here says you can’t use each one once. So have fun, these are all really cool and good Telekinesis being strength seems really random but hey, fun design I guess.

Enhancements

The enhancements have some fun design where they get better if you’re in the correct discipline. I like this design a lot, it creates more decision points, which keeps the game interactive and engaging.

Keep in mind these all go on Psyker units only.

Prescience is 25 points and can not go on terminators. It gives you the classic: Come within 9″ and I redeploy D6. If you’re in the divination discipline, it’s flat 6. Very cool, and always very good. A+

Celerity is 30 points and lets you advance and charge. Already huge. It let’s you also fall back and charge if you’re in the Biomancy discipline. Tools like this are good in every army, and Librarians can go on a vast number of units. It will see use. A+

Obfuscation is 20 points and makes the unit unable to be overwatched. This is clearly, very good into some matchups. If you are in the Telepathy discipline, you can’t be shot outside of 18″.The second effect is nice to have, but the first makes the 20 points worth it. Well budgeted for what it is. A

Fusillade is 15 points and gives the units ranged weapons anti-monster and anti-vehicle 5+. If you’re in the Pyromancy discipline you also get Sustained Hits 1. If you’re in the Telekinesis discipline add 6″ to the range characteristic of those weapons. There’s some pretty fun places that this can pop off, and at 15 points, it’s cheap enough to bring in-case you need to deal with stat-check armies. A

Stratagems

The detachment is already solid, but the good news is that it keeps that trend going into the Stratagems

Sensory Assault lets you in the command phase (either yours or the opponents) select an enemy unit within 18″ of Psyker unit, and subtract 2 from their move characteristic and from charge rolls. If you’re in the Telepathy discipline, they also make a battle-shock test at -1. This stratagems only issue is the range requirement, but that feels balanced by the timing of the stratagem. This will see lots of uses, some of which game winning. A+

Fiery Shield is some of the coolest design for a stratagem I’ve seen so far, and they’ve been showing off a lot cool design in these. You pick a friendly infantry or mounted unit within 18″ of a psyker unit that was selected for attacks in the fight phase. Subtract 1 to hit for attacks that target that unit. If you’re in the pyromancy discipline, get ready, you also give the enemy unit hazardous. A+, S+ for flavor.

Iron Arm is a straight forward +1 strength to an infantry unit within 18″ of a psyker unit during the fight phase. If you’re in the Biomancy discipline, it becomes +2 instead. I’ve seen what +2 strength can do to marines via Blood Angels. Its a good all round stratagem, and given all of these want you to be within 18″, you’ll likely hit the requirement. Solid A

Assail is again, super cool. But probably super toxic. Select an Adeptus Astartes Psyker unit in the shooting phase, then select an enemy unit within 18″. Roll six D6, each 4+ is a mortal wound. If you’re in the Telekinesis Discipline, add +1. Brother they gave them 2 grenades. Nutty. A+

Prescient Precision lets you give a psyker unit Lethal hits in the shooting phase. Ignores cover in addition if you are in the divination Discipline. It’s basic, Lethal Hits are great. B+

These are all super good and usable. Who knew a psyker marine detachment would have legs.

Lists

We have lists lined up, but from where I’m writing this I can’t access them right now. Check back later for an update.

Final Thoughts

It’s just straight up good. At worst, there’s some boring stratagems, and Fiery Shield, while fun, isn’t like, game breaking.

Minimum it’s fun and decently competitive. You can’t ask for more than that.

Tomorrows Chaos Space Marines. I’m pretty excited, and so is our community expert. We’ll get into it.

Be safe, drink lots of water.

Try something new today.
